PaveGro at Dell Seton Medical Center: Integrating Emergency Access with Sustainable Design
Dell Seton Medical Center is part of the Dell Medical District, a 16.2-acre sustainable development located on the University of Texas campus.
Recognized with a SITES Gold certification, the project exemplifies sustainable urban development, creating a vibrant and resilient landscape that serves students, educators, patients, and the surrounding community. The district’s sustainable design principles reduce environmental impact while providing a welcoming and restorative urban oasis.
Maximizing Sustainability with PaveGro
The Dell Medical District was designed to meet high environmental standards, with a focus on reducing water consumption, improving stormwater quality, reducing soil erosion, increasing habitat value, and enhancing landscape resilience. The PaveGro system, an integral part of the project, was selected to provide emergency access to the medical center and surrounding plaza areas. PaveGro offers a load-bearing yet green surface that aligns with the site’s sustainable landscaping goals.
The PaveGro fire lanes and emergency access routes blend seamlessly with the landscape design, creating green pathways that enhance the aesthetic value of the property without compromising functionality. This approach allows Dell Seton Medical Center to maintain essential emergency access while preserving valuable green space that contributes to the project’s urban oasis atmosphere.
Stormwater Management and Resilience
PaveGro’s composition of expanded shale and sandy clay provides high infiltration rates, which support the Dell Medical District’s stormwater management goals. The system allows rainwater to percolate through the fire lanes and pathways, reducing surface runoff and helping to control erosion. By incorporating PaveGro, the project contributes to improved stormwater quality, reinforcing the SITES Gold certification by enhancing the resilience and ecological value of the landscape.
